WASHINGTON – The killer of a pregnant woman in New York City left a chilling note with her body, saying more pregnant women will be killed until Lee Boyd Malvo is released.
Shortly after the observance of the D.C. sniper attacks’ 10th anniversary, the New York Police Department has confirmed to WTOP that the note under the woman’s body specifically referenced Malvo, the convicted D.C. sniper serving a life sentence with no parole at a prison in southwest Virginia.
“I will kill 1 pregnant woman a month starting now until Lee Boyd Malvo is set free!” the note says, according to NYPD spokesman Paul Browne. It was signed “the apprentice” with a smiley face.
Browne says they’re trying to figure out why the note was left at the scene.
“Whether this was just left there as a diversion at the crime scene or coincidental, we don’t know,” he says.
He says the woman’s body was discovered on Saturday, the day before her wedding. Police have detained the person she intended to marry on a minor unrelated charge, but they are questioning him about her death as well.
Browne also says that after Malvo was arrested, it was revealed that pregnant women were his next targets.
