WASHINGTON – What if your face could get you a discount?
It could soon be a reality. Nashville-based ad agency Redpepper has developed a concept that would use facial recognition in conjunction with the Facebook check- in application to deliver deals to consumers the second they walk into stores, restaurants or bars.
Redpepper suggests that the concept, referred to in the promotional video as “facedeals,” would involve installing facial recognition cameras in businesses. When a user agrees to use Facedeals, the cameras would automatically recognize his face, check him in at that location and deliver a special deal to his smartphone based on his “Like” history.
The idea isn’t a reality yet. Redpepper says it’s still finalizing testing and seeking funding. It isn’t actually affiliated with Facebook.
