WASHINGTON – Working at the top of the D.C. Council pays.
An analysis by The Washington Examiner shows that one of every five employees on the council payroll earns more than $100,000 a year, which is more than twice what the average worker in the city makes.
Council chairman Phil Mendleson makes the most with a $190,000 yearly salary. With elected council officials excluded, more than 20 council staffers earn more than $100,000, while the median salary for staffers is $68,000.
The Examiner says the lowest full-time salary of an employee is the $30,000 made by a legislative clerk to Councilmember Jim Graham, who represents Ward 1.
