Forbes rates D.C., Bethesda top 20 coolest

WASHINGTON – D.C. is one of the coolest places to live in the United States, according to Forbes.com. The website came out with its annual list of the top 20 coolest places to live Friday.

Houston got the top spot on the list. D.C. landed in the second spot, based on its culture, diversity, number of restaurants per capita and median age, among other things.

“We sought to quantify it in terms of cities, ranking the 65 largest Metropolitan Statistical Areas and Metropolitan Divisions based on seven data points weighted evenly,” Forbes says of its process.

Charm City landed at number 14 beside the likes of Chicago and Philadelphia. The surprise was Bethesda, Md. which nabbed the no. 17 slot.

Bethesda was chosen based on how it scored: 95 in arts and culture, 89 in recreation and the nearly 5,000 new people who moved to the area in 2011.
