WASHINGTON – Information technology jobs lead job growth in the U.S., with a growth rate almost twice that of the overall job market in the last year.
Alexandria-based TechServe Alliance said the number of IT jobs nationwide grew by 15,500 in May, the fifth consecutive month IT employment has reached a new record. In the last year, the IT has added 110,000 jobs, a 2.7 percent annual increase. U.S. employment has grown by just 1.4 percent overall in the past 12 months.
“While the overall May jobs report was interpreted by many as a signal of a stalling recovery, we are seeing no such slowdown in IT,” said TechServe Alliance chief executive Mark Roberts.
The trade group said members continue to report both high demand and a shortage of potential employees with the right skill sets.
