WASHINGTON – Not everyone is into pounding margaritas or mint julips this weekend. If you fall into the non-Cinco de Mayo and Kentucky Derby category, then settle in for this week’s edition of WTOP’s entertainment guide.
Artisphere is offering a contemporary and controversial look at life behind bars. “Memoirs of a Graffiti Writer’s Jail Time in Virginia” tells the story of Mickael Broth’s 10-month jail sentence for painting graffiti, and his creation of original street art using limited tools he had in jail. D.C. sure does love its food trucks and Saturday the original food truck festival is back. Curbside Cookoff: Trucko de Mayo will feature more than 40 trucks, live music and beer. Plus, admission and parking at RFK Stadium lots 4 and 5 is free. The tastiness begins at 11:30 a.m. and goes until 9 p.m. Check the website for more information.
In honor of “The Avengers”, Victory Comics in Falls Churck is hosting Free Comic Book Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The event will feature talks from local artists and experts including Mike O’Sullivan, head writer on the “Official Marvel Handbook” and Marvel trade editor. And don’t miss the 501st Stormtrooper Legion’s in store appearance.
Head to the Kennedy Center on Sunday for their 2012 Spring Gala: An Evening with David Foster & Friends. The 16-time Grammy winner takes the stage for a series of collaborations with Chaka Khan, Jewel, trumpeter Chris Botti and jazz vocalist Peter Cincotti.
