WASHINGTON – Superhero pantheon, meet grunge icons.
In a move that makes perfect sense using Hollywood logic, Seattle superstars Soundgarden released their first new song in 15 years for use on the soundtrack of the upcoming flick “The Avengers.” The blockbuster movie featuring Marvel’s superhero super-team hits theaters this Friday, and Soundgarden’s music video accompanying the song “Live to Rise” came out Thursday.
The footage features clips from the film interspersed with the graying grungers doing their thing. And while the song itself is pretty standard soundtrack fodder (read: solidly mediocre), some will still enjoy seeing Cornell & Co. playing together again.
For those interested, Soundgarden’s first LP in more than a decade is expected to be released this year.
