Driver in Chillum pedestrian hit-and-run in custody

WASHINGTON – A man is in custody following a pedestrian hit-and-run collision Saturday night in Chillum.

Prince George’s County Police say an off-duty officer found a man lying in the roadway on Ager Road at East-West Highway around 11:15 p.m. Saturday. The man appeared to have been hit by a car.

The 49-year-old pedestrian was taken to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.

The driver had fled the scene without stopping.

Sunday morning, around 7:37 a.m., the driver returned to the scene of the collision and contacted police.

Police say the driver is cooperating. Charges against the 60-year-old man are pending further investigation.

Preliminarily, police investigation found the driver was traveling westbound on Ager Road approaching East-West Highway in his 1998 Toyota Corolla when he hit the pedestrian.

Police say the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk or at an intersection at the time of the collision.
