WASHINGTON – Police say a head-on collision Sunday morning on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway has killed both drivers. The investigation into the crash closed the northbound lanes of the Parkway for hours.
U.S. Park Police say the crash happened around 6:30 Sunday morning when a minivan crossed the median and hit a SUV head-on in the northbound lanes near the intersection with Greenbelt Road.
Both drivers were killed in the crash. Nobody else was hurt in either vehicle. The driver of the SUV was killed at the scene. The driver of the minivan died a short time later at a local hospital.
Northbound traffic was rerouted onto the Beltway until around 11:30 a.m. Southbound lanes were being rerouted onto Powder Mill Road, but those lanes reopened around 9:45 a.m.
Police have not identified any of the victims involved in the crash.
