WASHINGTON – A big evening is on tap this week to raise money for a program that helps families that are struggling after a military member dies.
Tuesday is the annual TAPS gala, an important night for Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors.
The national organization helps families of fallen military members no matter how they died.
TAPS services are free of charge to anyone who is struggling following the death of loved one.
Ami Neiberger-Miller, with TAPS, says this awards gala is a critical fundraiser for the group.
“We wouldn’t be able to keep programs in place for families,” she says.
Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James F. Amos will be honored with the TAPS Honor Guard Gala Military Award for his commitment to supporting surviving families.
This year’s TAPS gala will also recognize an 18 year old for her efforts to reach out to others after losing her father in 2006 to suicide. He was a U.S. Marine.
