WASHINGTON – A popular app used to take and share photos is no longer just for iPhone and iPod Touch users. Instagram will now be available for Android users on Google Play, formerly known as the Android Market.
The free application allows users to take high quality photos, using retro filters and edgy borders. Users can add effects, such as ‘amaro’ and ‘hudson’ — or simply leave a photo the way it is. The images tend to look like they’ve been taken by a 1970’s Polaroid camera.
Instagram has become a major part of the social media hemisphere, offering many users the option of sharing photos on Facebook, Tumblr, Foursquare and Twitter.
“We tried to imagine what the world would be like if every single person on earth could share the world around them through the lens on their phones,” said the makers of the app in a recent blog post. “With the release of Instagram for Android, we’re one step closer to making that goal a reality,”
To get started, users must sign-up for the application that boasts more than 30 million users.
