WASHINGTON – Veterans who have served since Sept. 11 have had a tough time finding a job. But their unemployment numbers are improving, thanks in part to events like the one going on Saturday in Bethesda.
Twenty-nine companies are at Naval Support Activity Bethesda, which is home to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The employers, which include JPMorgan chase, Verizon, AT&T, Delta, and Lockheed Martin, are promising jobs ranging from entry level to management, and information about free programs available to job-seekers.
It’s all a part of the “100,000 Jobs Mission,” which launched in March 2011 with the goal of hiring 100,000 veterans by 2020. They say they helped more that 6,600 get jobs last year.
Registration is encouraged but not necessary. Veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses are all welcome, but to get on the base, you must have a current military ID card or a photo ID along with DD214 documentation of military service.
The job fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
