WASHINGTON – Gov. Bob McDonnell unveiled his 2012 legislative plan that he says continues his promise to make Virginia the most veteran-friendly state in the country.
The governor’s legislative agenda would improve services for veterans and the military. He wants to ensure all members of the Virginia National Guard get in-state tuition — no matter how long they have lived in the state.
McDonnell also wants to improve the delivery of benefits and combat the problem of veteran homelessness.
Other measures the governor is pushing for are plans to improve absentee ballot access for military members stationed overseas; better access to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for veterans, active military and their families through mobile DMV units and expanded full-service offices.
McDonnell also wants to create a veterans ID card, through the DMV, which would show proof of a veteran’s status in order to take advantage of discounts.
