WASHINGTON – Few people enjoy scraping their windshields on cold winter mornings. Despite the burden, there is a right way and a wrong way to complete the task.
To protect the glass, don’t use the defroster to blow hot air directly onto a snowy or frozen windshield. This can create small chips or help nicks become big cracks.
AAA also suggests warming up the car before using the ice scraper, but don’t use the scraper to bang on or chip away ice. Soften it by warming up the car gradually.
Also, never pour hot water on a cold windshield. That can create more ice and cause the glass to break.
