‘Net users most concerned about credit card access

WASHINGTON – The debate over online piracy goes much deeper than just being able to access bootlegged movies. A new poll suggests people are more concerned with compromised finances than anything else.

A Forrester Research analyst conducted a large survey of Internet users in North America. Seventy-one percent of respondents said they were worried about companies accessing their credit card numbers. Over one-third were concerned about their social profile information.

Also, 44 percent of online users said they wouldn’t complete an online transaction because of something they read in the company’s privacy policy.

Age seems to be a factor. More than half of consumers between 18 and 34 said they are willing to share their personal data in exchange for discounts, while fewer than 25 percent of those over 55 were.
