Strategies to stay healthy while keeping a busy schedule

WASHINGTON — You work long hours, traffic is crazy and on top of that the holidays are here.

If you’re wondering how to make time to stay healthy, we have some strategies for you.

Small business owner Jennifer Berson schedules at least two workouts a week on her calendar, just like meetings.

If things get really crazy, she and others at her office stop what they’re doing and hold a 10 minute dance party. She says it gives everyone a mood and energy boost.

Laura Zander, another small business owner, squeezes in workouts by multi-tasking.

She does research on her iPad while using an elliptical machine, and she brainstorms for her business while walking her dog.

If junk food is your downfall, personal trainer Don Miguel says plan ahead and think about what you’ll be eating throughout each day.

Keep healthy snacks like fruits, nuts and veggies with you.

Carry a full bottle of water, and take a swig when you feel a craving. Many people think they’re hungry when they’re actually thirsty.

Miguel tells OpenForum.com he gets up at 5 a.m. every day to work out, but even taking a 30 second timeout at your desk to focus on breathing can do wonders.
