Add flu shots to the top of your winter to-do list

WASHINGTON — No one wants to start the new year with a case of the flu. So make sure to get a flu shot before the virus hits.

“Typically, the flu season peaks in January and February of each year,” says Dr. Yabo Beysolow with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “It takes about two weeks once you get the vaccine for it to work in your system so this is the perfect time for anyone to get vaccinated.”

The CDC says everyone 6 months or older should get the vaccine, but especially the very young, the very old, pregnant women and people with chronic health conditions.
