In Japan, high fashion means crooked teeth

WASHINGTON — A new trend in Japan is stirring up conversation internationally because it’s, well, a tad weird.

Japanese women are increasingly going after crooked teeth — so much so that cosmetic dentists offer expensive procedures to add fang-like caps on women’s canine teeth to make them look more crooked, and more more crowded.

It’s called the ‘Yaeba’ look, which translates to ‘double tooth,’ and part of its appeal is in making a woman appear more youthful and childlike — you know, they way they looked before spending thousands on braces.

Fans of the fashion have created a Facebook page in its honor.
