NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Jamal Shead hit a short follow shot with 0.4 seconds left and top-ranked Houston beat Oklahoma 87-85 on Saturday night, giving coach Kelvin Sampson a victory over one of his former schools.
Shead missed a driving layup attempt, but corralled the loose rebound off the floor and put the Cougars back ahead after they blew a 15-point lead. Emanuel Sharp tipped away a desperation pass by Oklahoma’s Milos Uzan as time expired.
L.J. Cryer led Houston (26-3, 13-3 Big 12) with 23 points, making 5 of 9 3-pointers. J’Wan Roberts added 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting, and Shead scored 14. Houston shot 56.7% from the field and Oklahoma was at 52.7%.
Rivaldo Soares had 16 points for Oklahoma (19-10, 7-9).
NO. 2 PURDUE 80, MICHIGAN STATE 74
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Zach Edey had 32 points and 11 rebounds, Braden Smith added 23 points and nine boards, and Purdue beat Michigan State to clinch a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship.
Gold confetti fell from the Mackey Arena rafters as Purdue celebrated its conference-best 26th title. With a win in either of their final two games, the Boilermakers (26-3, 15-3) would claim their second straight outright regular-season crown.
The last Big Ten team to win back-to-back outright regular-season titles was Ohio State in 2006 and 2007.
Michigan State (17-12, 9-9) shot just 39% and has lost three straight. Tyson Walker had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Spartans.
Fletcher Loyer finished with 15 points for Purdue, which has won 16 in a row at home.
NO. 4 TENNESSEE 81, NO. 14 ALABAMA 74
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Zakai Zeigler scored 18 points and made four 3-pointers as Tennessee beat Alabama to take sole possession of the Southeastern Conference lead.
The Volunteers (23-6, 13-3 SEC) came into the game tied with the Crimson Tide (20-9, 12-4) atop the league standings and delivered their second straight big win heading into the final week of the regular season.
Tennessee, which beat No. 11 Auburn 92-84 on Wednesday, held the nation’s No. 2 scoring team without a field goal for more than nine minutes down the stretch.
Josiah-Jordan James had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Volunteers, who won despite a subpar night from the SEC’s leading scorer, Dalton Knecht.
Mark Sears had 22 points and six assists for Alabama. Aaron Estrada added 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
NO. 12 CREIGHTON 89, NO. 5 MARQUETTE 75
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Baylor Scheierman scored 26 points and made three straight 3-pointers late in the game to lead Creighton to a victory over Marquette.
Scheierman, a candidate for Big East player of the year who was playing his final game at CHI Health Center, had 16 rebounds for his eighth double-double in 10 games and 14th of the season.
Ryan Kalkbrenner scored 19 points and Trey Alexander added 18 points for the Bluejays (22-8, 13-6).
The Golden Eagles (22-7, 13-5) played without injured star guard Tyler Kolek and big man Oso Ighodaro (illness).
Kam Jones led the Golden Eagles with 23 points, David Joplin scored 21 and Stevie Mitchell had 15 points and nine rebounds.
NO. 6 ARIZONA 103, OREGON 83
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Caleb Love scored 22 points, Oumar Ballo had his ninth straight double-double and Arizona closed out the Pac-12 era at McKale Center with a beatdown of Oregon.
Keyed by Love and then Kylan Boswell, Arizona (23-6, 14-4) had a 17-point lead by the midpoint of the first half and didn’t let off the gas. The Wildcats shot 61% overall, went 14 for 25 from 3 and had 27 assists on 39 made field goals to finish the season 15-1 at home.
Ballo had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the longest double-double streak at Arizona since Al Fleming had 10 straight during the 1974-75 season. Pelle Larsson had 22 points and fellow senior Keshad Johnson scored 21.
Jermaine Couisnard scored 33 of his 39 points in the second half and Oregon (19-10, 11-7) shot 52% in its final Pac-12 road game.
NO. 15 BAYLOR 82, NO. 7 KANSAS 74
WACO, Texas (AP) — RayJ Dennis had 19 points and 10 assists, Jayden Nunn scored 18 and Baylor handed Kansas consecutive losses for the first time this season.
Yves Missi added 17 points and fellow freshman Ja’Kobe Walter had 11 for the Bears (21-8, 10-6 Big 12).
Nunn first drove the length of the court with 13:49 left after grabbing a defensive rebound. Then after 7-foot freshman Missi blocked a Kansas shot, Dennis passed ahead to a breaking Nunn for another layup. Those baskets 25 seconds apart ignited a 13-2 run that pushed Baylor’s lead from one to 12 with 10 minutes left.
Big 12 scoring leader Kevin McCullar Jr., in his return to the lineup after missing four of the previous five games with a bone bruise in his knee, and Hunter Dickinson had 20 points each for Kansas (21-8, 9-7), which was coming off a 76-68 loss at home to Big 12 newcomer BYU. Dajuan Harris had 12 points and nine assists.
NO. 8 IOWA STATE 60, UCF 52
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Tre King had 16 points and Iowa State had a late 11-0 run to beat UCF for its third straight victory and seventh in eight games.
Milan Momcilovic added 11 points for Iowa State (23-6, 12-4 Big 12). He hit a basket with 2:20 left to give the Cyclones a three-point lead.
Jaylin Sellers led UCF (15-13, 6-10) with 13 points. Shemarri Allen had 11 points.
Iowa State and UCF have two of the top defenses in the Big 12. The teams combined to force 39 turnovers. The Cyclones took advantage, with 22 points off the Knights’ 22 turnovers.
NO. 9 NORTH CAROLINA 79, NC STATE 70
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Harrison Ingram scored a season-high 22 points as North Carolina rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half and beat North Carolina State.
Elliot Cadeau scored 15 points and RJ Davis, who put up a Smith Center-record 42 points Monday night against Miami, finished with 14 after being held to two in the first half. Armando Bacot added 13 points for North Carolina (23-6, 15-3 ACC), which won its fourth straight game and maintained its hold on first place in the conference, ahead of Duke.
Jayden Taylor hit five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points, and DJ Horne scored 16 of his 20 points in the first half for N.C. State (17-12, 9-9), which lost for the third time in four games.
NO. 10 DUKE 73, VIRGINIA 48
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Kyle Filipowski scored 21 points and Duke shot 59% before halftime to build a huge lead and beat Virginia.
Tyrese Proctor added 15 points for the Blue Devils (23-6, 14-4 ACC), who stayed near the top of the league race primarily on the strength of a dominant first half. That included the 7-foot Filipowski outscoring Virginia through the opening 15 minutes as Duke rolled to a 25-point lead before halftime.
Reece Beekman had 18 points and Isaac McKneely added 12 points for the Cavaliers (21-9, 12-7), who had been sliding in what is now suddenly turning into a steep fall. The Cavaliers have lost four of six. They shot just 30.9%, including making 5 of 17 3-pointers.
NO. 11 AUBURN 78, MISSISSIPPI STATE 63
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Johni Broome had 17 points, Denver Jones scored 15, and Auburn bounced back from a road loss at fourth-ranked Tennessee with a 78-63 win over Mississippi State.
Auburn (22-7, 11-5 SEC) set the tone with its defense, as Mississippi State missed 17 of its first 19 shots. The Tigers never trailed, and they recorded nine blocks and eight steals in the victory.
Josh Hubbard finished with 23 points, including 20 in the second half, for the Bulldogs (19-10, 8-8). Tolu Smith added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
NO. 13 ILLINOIS 91, WISCONSIN 83
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Marcus Domask had 31 points, Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 23 and Illinois continued its recent mastery of Wisconsin by beating the slumping Badgers.
Illinois has won its last six matchups with Wisconsin, which represents the Illini’s longest winning streak in the series since beating the Badgers 16 straight times from 1981-89. Wisconsin beat Illinois 15 consecutive times before this stretch.
Illinois (22-7, 13-5) is 1 1/2 games behind No. 2 Purdue in the Big Ten standings. Wisconsin (18-11, 10-8) has lost seven of its last nine.
Wisconsin got 20 points from Tyler Wahl, 16 from Max Klesmit, 15 from Chucky Hepburn and 13 from AJ Storr.
NO. 16 KENTUCKY 111, ARKANSAS 102
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Rob Dillingham scored 11 of his 15 points in the final 6:33 and Kentucky rallied for a victory over Arkansas.
The Razorbacks (14-15, 5-11 SEC) led 86-77 with 8 1/2 minutes remaining before the Wildcats (21-8, 11-5) stormed back with a 21-6 burst to open a 98-92 lead.
Antonio Reeves led Kentucky with 22 points and D.J. Wagner scored 19.
Khalif Battle scored 34 points for the Razorbacks. Arkansas shot 53% from the floor, outscored Kentucky 48-38 in the paint and was 21 for 21 from the free-throw line in the second half. Tramon Mark added 23 points and Jeremiah Davenport added 14 points.
NO. 23 GONZAGA 70, NO. 17 SAINT MARY’S 57
MORAGA, Calif. (AP) — Graham Ike scored 24 points and Gonzaga bolstered its NCAA Tournament hopes by handing Saint Mary’s its first conference loss of the season.
The Bulldogs (24-6, 14-2 West Coast Conference) have won eight straight games since losing at home to the Gaels (24-7, 15-1) on Feb. 3, with three of them being Quad 1 wins. Ike has led the way, becoming the first Gonzaga player to score at least 20 points in seven consecutive games since Adam Morrison in 2005-06.
Ryan Nembhard added 20 points and 10 assists for the Zags.
Aidan Mahaney scored 16 for the Gaels, who came in with the nation’s longest winning streak at 16 games. They had already clinched their first outright conference title since 2012 with a win at Pepperdine on Thursday night.
NO. 18 SOUTH CAROLINA 82, NO. 24 FLORIDA 76
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Meechie Johnson scored 25 points including a tie-breaking 3-pointer with 43.4 seconds to play as South Carolina rallied for a victory over Florida.
The Gamecocks (24-5, 12-4 SEC) trailed 56-46 with 12 minutes to play, but behind Johnson and Collin Murray-Boyles turned things around with a 26-12 surge. They kept themselves in the chase for an SEC title, a game behind co-leaders No. 4 Tennessee and No. 14 Alabama when the day started.
Murray-Boyles, a freshman, finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.
Walter Clayton Jr. had 20 points and Zyon Pullin scored 18 for the Gators (20-9, 10-6).
NO. 19 WASHINGTON STATE 77, UCLA 65
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Jaylen Wells matched a career high with 27 points, including 11 in the final 7 1/2 minutes as Washington State beat UCLA.
The Cougars (23-7, 14-5) rallied for the second time in three days to stay a half-game behind first-place Arizona in the Pac-12 race. They reached 23 wins for the first time since 2007, and their 14th victory in conference play equaled a school record.
Myles Rice had 18 points for the Cougars, who have their highest ranking in the AP Top 25 since February 2008.
Dylan Andrews led UCLA (14-15, 9-9) with 21 points.
NO. 25 SOUTH FLORIDA 76, CHARLOTTE 61
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Chris Youngblood scored 17 points, Kasean Pryor had 16 points and nine rebounds, and South Florida beat Charlotte for its 14th consecutive victory.
Selton Miguel chipped in 13 points for the Bulls (22-5, 15-1 AAC), who haven’t lost since Jan. 7 and entered the AP Top 25 for the first time in school history earlier this week.
Lu’Cye Patterson had 17 points for Charlotte (17-11, 11-5), which had its eight-game home win streak snapped.
Charlotte entered the game looking for its second home victory over a Top 25 team after upsetting then-No. 17 Florida Atlantic 70-68 on Jan. 6.
Charlotte struggled all day on the glass with center Dishon Jackson spending most of the game on the bench with foul trouble.
