WASHINGTON — A homecoming queen who was on the way home from her high school prom was killed in floodwaters in Devine, Texas.
Alyssa Ramirez spent Saturday night at her prom. But when she was driving home Sunday, the floodwaters swept her car off the road, according to NBC News affiliate WOAI.
Reportedly, there were no barricades on the road and Ramirez’s car stalled in high waters a few miles from her home. She called 911 and her father from the car, according to a relative of Ramirez. The parents of the teen tried searching for their daughter.
Ramirez was a tennis and volleyball athlete. She was student council President, a cheerleader and co-editor of the high school yearbook and had aspirations of being an optometrist, according to an obituary provided by Hurley Funeral Home in Devine, Texas.
