WASHINGTON – A statement from the group known as the Islamic State claims that a Jordanian airstrike has killed a female, American hostage, CBS News and the Associated Press are reporting.
It was not immediately clear whether the unnamed woman was killed in the airstrike, before the strike or at all. The report could not be be independently verified and there was no confirmation from the Pentagon, according to CBS News.
The report claims that the woman was buried in the rubble of a building near the Syrian city of ar-Raqqah, which was targeted for more than an hour by the Jordanian military, CBS News reports.
About 20 Jordanian F-16 fighter planes took part in the strikes, with support from U.S. aircraft including reconnaissance, refueling and radio-jamming assistance, according to CBS News.
