WASHINGTON — Detectives are investigating a seven-vehicle crash that sent six people — including an infant and two children — to the hospital with serious injuries Tuesday evening in Germantown, Maryland.
Montgomery County police said officers responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Middlebrook Road and Great Seneca Highway just after 6 p.m.
While traffic was stopped on westbound Middlebrook Road for a red light on Great Seneca Highway, a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling down Middlebrook Road crashed into a Toyota Prius, a Dodge Charger, a Nissan Pathfinder, a Toyota Camry, another Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Honda Civic.
Police said they are still investigating why the first Jeep Grand Cherokee crashed into the other cars that were stopped at the light.
Lawrence Russellffer Reid, 43, of Damascus is the driver of the first Jeep. He was taken to a hospital with what police say are serious injuries. His passengers have been identified as a 36-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy, both taken to the hospital also with serious injuries.
In the Dodge Charger, the driver has been identified as Thierno Abdoulaye Fofana, 41, of Germantown, who was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The two passengers of that car were a 2-year-old girl and an 11-month-old boy, also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
In the Honda Civic, the driver, Robert James Kellar III, 38, of Clarksburg, was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police said the people in the remaining cars were not injured.
