WASHINGTON — A car crashed into a Maryland State police cruiser Saturday on the northbound side of Interstate 270 in Montgomery County.
The crash occurred at around 6:40 a.m. near Montrose Road. The striking vehicle, a Ford Fusion, rolled over and caught fire after hitting the police cruiser and a Honda Odyssey.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer told NBC Washington that the trooper was stopped on the side of the road conducting a traffic stop with the Honda.
He was not in the cruiser when the crash occurred.
The officer broke though the windshield of the car and rescued Stephen Michael Shannon, 29, who was taken to to Suburban Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, NBC Washington reported.
