WASHINGTON — Two local motorists, who in 2013 caused a horrific crash in Montgomery County, were each sentenced to 20 years in prison on Monday.
Chaka Wakefield, 28, and Audias Sanchez, 39, were flying along Georgia Avenue on June 9, 2013 and slammed into a car carrying the Pineda family. Sanchez was traveling at speeds of up to 106 miles per hour. The impact was so great that it split the Pineda’s car in two.
Elva Pineda survived the accident but lost her husband, Salvador Ramos; brother, Felipe Pineda; and four-year-old daughter, Elizabeth Pineda.
In December 2015, Wakefield and Sanchez were found guilty of three counts of manslaughter by a motor vehicle.
Both defense attorneys say they will appeal the sentence.
