ROCKVILLE, Md. — The parents of a 7-year-old Clarksburg, Maryland boy who told police they restrained him using plastic wrap and zip ties, and scalded him with hot water will go on trial in May.
Craig and Nicole Williams and their individual lawyers were in Montgomery County Circuit Court, Friday.
Judge John Debelius set a five-day trial. Craig and Nicole Williams are charged separately, but it’s likely prosecutors will ask they be tried together.
The two sat apart in the courtroom with their attorneys, while shared family and friends offered supportive hugs.
According to charging documents, Craig Williams admitted to police he wrapped his son in plastic wrap from shoulders to knees, then used several zip ties around the boy’s body.
In the documents, police say Nicole Williams, the boy’s stepmother, assisted in binding the boy.
The charging documents do not specify why the parents bound the boy.
The boy said he had been burned by hot water during a bath, and his hands had been plunged into hot water.
Each parent was indicted in January 2016 on charges of felony child abuse.
Outside the courtroom Craig Williams’ attorney David Driscoll and Nicole Williams’ lawyer Timothy Clarke, declined to offer explanations of the alleged abuse.
