WASHINGTON — As snow is being cleared in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, officials are announcing changes that drivers, residents and commuters need to know.
The snow emergency was lifted in Montgomery County at 6 a.m. With the lifting of Montgomery County’s snow emergency, there will no longer be any free parking in county garages. Recycling and trash collection is resuming.
And you have to clear your sidewalk in Montgomery. Starting Thursday, in accordance with county law, you must clear the sidewalk in front of your home.
“Understanding that this is a difficult task, it must be accomplished to provide safe routes for people depending upon Metro and Ride On bus service, people using wheelchairs and with other physical challenges and for children when they return to school,” says a statement from the county released on Wednesday.
Prince George’s County officials they are starting to enforce the county’s law on clearing your sidewalks.
Susan Hubbard with the Department of Permitting and Inspections says that residents are getting notifications today, and have 24 hours to clear sidewalks if they haven’t already.
So if you see a doorhanger on your door? Start shoveling!
Hubbard says there was a miscommunication to WTOP: Barry Stanton, the county’s CAO for Public Infrastructure told WTOP that everyone would be given more time. However, Hubbard says businesses were not included in that extension.
Hubbard was asked if those citations given to businesses would be forgiven — she said she did not think that would be the case.
