Local rapper arrested in Silver Spring, accused of disorderly conduct

WASHINGTON — A local rapper known as Shy Glizzy was arrested Monday night in Silver Spring after police say he contributed to a small riot Monday evening.

Police arrested 22-year-old Marquis Amonte King near the corner of Colesville Road and Ramsey Avenue in Silver Spring Monday, reports The Washington Post. King is a budding local rap star who goes by Shy Glizzy.

At about 6:30 p.m., Montgomery County police say they spotted what they suspected was a handoff of drugs involving two other people. As they questioned the driver of a car, police told The Post that King joined a group around the officers, climbed onto a concrete wall and helped incited a crowd.

King reportedly started shouting obscenities and was subsequently arrested.

King is charged with disorderly conduct, failure to obey an officer, obstructing, resisting arrest and rioting, The Post reports.

Montgomery County police didn’t put out a news release on the incident, but said they were getting a lot of calls about the status of the rapper, who lives in Clarksburg.

The Washington Post reports King was released on $3,500 bond.
