WASHINGTON — The former superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools will become the next CEO of Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) International, the organization announced Tuesday.
Joshua Starr will replace William J. Bushaw at the research, leadership and education focused nonprofit in Arlington.
Joshua Starr and the MCPS Board of Education agreed to part ways in February, several months before his four-year contract was due to expire.
At the time, reports surfaced that several members of the school board wouldn’t support a bid by Starr to renew his contract.
“Don’t get into a fight that you know you’re not going to win,” Starr said at a news conference at the time.
PDK International has recently changed directions, according the the company’s news release, which will include the launch of Educators Rising in August.
“I’m thrilled to be joining PDK International at this critical moment in the organization’s distinguished history. As PDK International is reimagining its role, I’m excited to leverage its resources, expertise, and energy to ensure that policy conversations are focused on teaching and learning and on advocating for what we know works in public education. Our focus should always be on what the children in our classrooms need to reach standards that are very different from the expectations of the past. PDK is uniquely positioned to lead that conversation in this country,” Starr said in the release.
Starr will officially take over the regins at PDK International on June 8.
