WASHINGTON — Maryland State Police are investigating a crash that led to a death on Interstate 270 in Montgomery County early Wednesday morning.
At about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Maryland State Police responded to a call of a pedestrian struck on southbound I-270 between Father Hurley Boulevard and Germantown Road. When police arrived, they found the body of a man in his 20s.
Brian Snyder, 65, the driver of the tractor-trailer that struck the victim, stayed at the scene.
Snyder told police he was driving on southbound I-270 when he noticed a black Nissan Xterra on the right shoulder of the road. When he looked back to the roadway, he saw a man walking in the third lane of the roadway. He says he was unable to avoid the man and struck him.
Snyder told police he pulled over to the right shoulder immediately and called 911. He was found not to be impaired, police say.
Maryland State Police say when they investigated the XTerra, there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The keys were still in the ignition and the vehicle was running when police arrived.
Police have not released the identity of the victim at this time. The car was registered to a North Chesterfield, Virginia resident.
