WASHINGTON — One of two people accused of a 2012 Montgomery County homicide is somewhat familiar with the state judicial system: She worked at the courthouse in Rockville, Maryland.
Imani Cook, 26, of Silver Spring, who was charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery in the December 2012 death, was a recordation clerk in the Land Records office of the Montgomery County Circuit Court.
She began work at the court in May 2014 and was terminated Feb. 6, the day she was arrested in the murder of suspected drug dealer Jess Campos, of Silver Spring.
Cook was arrested along with Steven Darnell Webster, who police say is a gang member. Charges are pending against a third man who police suspect is also a gang member.
Police say that Cook loaned Campos money to buy marijuana and he refused to repay the full loan. Court documents say she peppered him with up to 100 cellphone calls, which stopped 12 days before his Dec. 7, 2012, murder.
Cook faces a March 6 preliminary hearing.
