WASHINGTON — Several schools in Northern Virginia evacuated Friday afternoon because of bomb threats, which were later determined to be nonthreatening.
Falls Church City Public School’s George Mason High School received a bomb threat by phone at about 11:30 a.m. The school was evacuated and the “all clear” has been given.
In Fairfax County Public Schools, Westfield High School, McLean High School and Herndon High School received threats around the same time. The threats are not credible, says the school systems’ spokeswoman Mary Shaw.
“We do not believe any FCPS students are at risk and we are continuing with normal school operations at all of our schools for the remainder of the day,” Shaw said in an email.
In Arlington, Bishop O’Connell High School received a threat and has since issued an “all clear.”
In Loudoun County, Stone Bridge High School received a threat by phone a little before 11:30 a.m. The school was evacuated and that “all clear” has been given.
WTOP’s broadcast news partner, NBC Washington, is reporting other schools that received similar threats.
Those schools include: The Potomac School in McLean and Falls Church High School in Falls Church, NBC Washington reports.
In all cases, school officials asked parents not to pick up their kids.
