Maryland man gets 14 years in prison for sexually abusing DC girl

A Maryland man who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl in D.C. has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Sean Cortez Moses, 31, of Suitland, Maryland, was also ordered by U.S. District Court Judge Trevor N. McFadden to pay $100,000 in restitution to the victim, serve 10 years of supervision upon his release from prison and register as a sex offender for life.

The sentence was announced Tuesday in a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C.

Moses pleaded guilty in July to first-degree sexual abuse of a minor with aggravating circumstances and accessing child pornography.

In the news release, prosecutors said Moses began a relationship with a woman who lived in D.C. “who had access to the little girl.”

Between June 2017 and June 2018, prosecutors said Moses traveled from Maryland to the District, “where he took advantage of this relationship to sexually abuse the child and to view child pornography.”

Moses was arrested in March 2021 and has remained in custody since then.

Authorities said the case was investigated by the FBI Washington Field Office’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
