WASHINGTON — You may not have won the $1.5 billion lottery, but you might be a $1 million winner.

Maryland sold three $1 million tickets and Virginia two $1 million tickets.

The Maryland Lottery says the winners bought their tickets at the following locations:

  • Wawa — 5440 Urbana Pike, Frederick, Md.
  • Walker Hill Amoco — 6701 Walker Mill Rd., Capitol Heights, Md.
  • 7-Eleven, 4907 Annapolis Rd., Bladensburg, MD 20710

The Maryland Lottery says there were 24 $50,000 third-tier winners and one $100,000 third-tier winner who purchased the Power Play option.

“We sold a ton of lottery tickets and apparently someone hit it big,”  said Derek Mooney, general manager at the Wawa in Frederick that sold the $1 million ticket.

The winner stopped by the gas station and convenience store Thursday morning to confirm her luck. Mooney got a look at the ticket, and talked with the woman.

“You could tell they were stunned and excited,” he says.  “She was just kind of in awe.”

Mooney thinks his store will be considered lucky from here on out, although he didn’t have any luck himself playing Powerball.

“The biggest thought is, I wish it was me.  I bought plenty of tickets here yesterday and I didn’t win anything!”

Virginia’s winners picked their tickets up in Salem and Virginia Beach, the Virginia lottery says.

Two $50,000 tickets were sold in D.C. at the following locations:

  • Dave Brown Wine — 4721 Sheriff Rd. NE.
  • Tenley Market — 4326 Wisconsin Ave. NW.

The winning numbers were 4-8-19-27-34 and Powerball 10.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified the Powerball jackpot amount.
