WASHINGTON — In December, thousands of volunteers gathered at Arlington National Cemetery to place wreaths on veteran’s graves as a way to honor them for their service.
In all, nearly 50,000 volunteers placed the basal wreaths on 230,000 veterans’ graves in Arlington. Nationally, more than 700,000 volunteers participated at 1,115 locations nationally and abroad.
But now, the wreaths must come down. To accomplish this Wreaths Across America is asking for volunteers.
On Jan. 24, volunteers of all ages are asked to meet at 8:30 a.m. at the McClellan Arch gate off Eisenhower Drive. Instructions will be given and clean up will begin at 8:45.
Bringing rakes, ropes or poles to help carry the wreaths is encouraged. The clean up is expected to go on rain or snow.
