WASHINGTON — Two Virginia high school coaches and one from Maryland are among 24 competitors in the USA TODAY High School Sports’ 2014-2015 America’s Best Coach contest.
Frank Spinello, who coaches boys soccer at Fairfax County’s George Mason High School, is in the running, as is Claude Toukene, who coaches boys track and field at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia
The Maryland coach in the competition is Ben Rubeor, a boys lacrosse coach at St. Mary’s Prep in Annapolis.
The 24 coaches are part of the American Family Insurance ALL-USA program and honorees from other organizations, including the National High School Coaches Association and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The winning coach not only gets the honor, but $1,000 for his athletic department. The second-place winner gets $500 for his athletic department and third place wins $250.
Voting in the contest ends at 2 p.m. July 24.
