February Charity of the Month 2026

The WTOP February Charity of the Month is Easterseals

Easterseals is removing barriers to well-being for thousands of people in our region.

Since 1945, Easterseals has worked tirelessly to enhance quality of life and expand access to healthcare, education, and employment in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. We provide comprehensive services to children and adults with disabilities and to those with military backgrounds – regardless of their ability to pay.

Want to support the work of our local Easterseals while having fun? Make plans to attend or sponsor Bright Stars “Night at the Circus,” presented by M&T Bank, on Saturday, February 28 at the Warner Theatre. This fun-filled night features a multi-abled cast and crew who imagine a “circus for all”! Funds raised from this family-friendly event help Easterseals continue to serve thousands of children, adults, and military families around DC, Maryland, and Norther Virginia. What We Do:

  • Early Education Services: 3 Child Development Centers and 4 Head Start programs promote each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
  • Adult Day Services: 3 centers – in Baltimore, Silver Spring, and Hagerstown – serve adults and seniors needing comprehensive daily care in a safe, nurturing, home-like environment.
  • Respite Services and Caregiver Support: Respite support provides more than 30,000 hours of care annually to children and families.
  • Military & Veterans Services: Easterseals offers mental healthcare to military veterans, active-duty personnel, and their families, as well as targeted employment support to veterans and military spouses transitioning to the civilian workforce.

Impact

Last year, our programs and services helped thousands of individuals and families enhance their health and well-being:

  • 100% of children improved their developmental skills by age 3.
  • 356 caregivers reported less stress , anxiety, and isolation.
  • More than 650 military family members fully or partially met their mental health treatment goals last year.
  • To date, more than 11,000 veterans and military spouses have received career coaching from Easterseals.
