WASHINGTON — The Anne Arundel County, Maryland 13-year-old best-known by his online name of Caleb Bratayley died from a heart condition, which was undetected despite a family history.
Caleb LeBlanc and his family documented much of their lives since 2010, for their popular YouTube show, “Bratayley.”
“The doctor confirmed today that Caleb passed away from a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy that went undetected in his yearly checkups,” wrote his mother, Katie.
The family also posted the autopsy findings on Instagram.
According to the Capital Gazette, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore confirmed the cause of death.
“Caleb didn’t have any symptoms so the doctor said there was nothing we could have done differently,” wrote the boy’s mother.
Caleb’s sisters Annie, 10 and Hayley, 7, show no signs of the disease, according to their mother.
“The girls’ hearts were just recently checked and thankfully look the way they should right now. The sadness of losing someone you love is unimaginable.”
The boy’s father, Billy, in a YouTube video said his son had been screened for the disease, “which runs in our family.”
“Caleb had been tested before,” but the condition had not been detected, “so it is something that worries us a lot,” said the father.
“We’re going to get (Annie and Hayley) tested more often,” he said, in the video.
Caleb LeBlanc died Oct. 1 at a hospital, after he was stricken in his family’s Severna Park home.
