Crying Villanova piccolo player sits in with Roots on ‘Tonight Show’

WASHINGTON – She’s become the face of March Sadness, but she had a good laugh in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday.

Last weekend, Roxanne Chalifoux, who plays piccolo in the Villanova University band, was overcome by emotion while playing at the end of Villanova’s upset loss to North Carolina State. The video of her crying while gamely playing away became an instant viral sensation.

She got a reward for her devotion, and her determination to play on: A chance to sit in with The Roots during “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” and to speak with the host.

Fallon gave Chalifoux a basket of “Tonight Show” swag and gave her a pair of tickets to a Taylor Swift show – which got her emotional all over again.
