16-year-old girl dies days after being shot in the head in Northeast

WASHINGTON — D.C. police say a 16-year-old girl who was shot in the head Thursday near Gallaudet University has died.

Taiyania Thompson of Northeast was pronounced dead on Sunday, according to police.

Officers found Thompson suffering from a gunshot wound to the head when they responded to an apartment in the 1000 block of Mount Olivet Road around 3 p.m. Thursday.

D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said she was in “very, very, serious condition,” when she was transported to the hospital.

Police believe the shooting was part of a domestic dispute.

Police are still searching for a vehicle of interest in the case. The vehicle is described as a 2017 white Kia Sorento SUV with a Maryland tag of 1DD2833.

The car’s front end may be damaged.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the involved parties in an homicide in D.C.
