Police investigate Georgetown-area sex assault

WASHINGTON — Another sexual assault has been reported in Georgetown, the D.C. police say.

On Wednesday, police say, a man groped a woman from behind near 33rd Street and Dent Place at about 8:15 p.m., then ran off.

The police describe him as white; between 20 and 30 years old; 5-foot-10, with a medium build. They say he is unshaven and was wearing a gray hoodie with black stripes.

There have been no arrests in at least four other sexual assaults in Georgetown that happened between Aug. 3 and Sept. 12. Police are looking into whether the latest case could be related to the other assaults.

On Sept. 17, a Falls Church, Virginia, man was arrested after police say they saw him grope a woman near Georgetown University, in the 3300 block of Prospect Street. Sergio Velaquez-Cardozo, 34, was charged with third-degree sex abuse.

If you have any information in these assault cases, the police are asking you to call them at 202-727-9099. You can text your tip to 50411.

Crime Solvers of Washington is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment of those responsible.
