WASHINGTON — A man from Maryland was struck and killed by a car, early Thursday morning on 9th Street in Northwest.
The D.C. police Thursday morning identified the man as Armin Amin-Toomaji, 44, of Potomac. Amin-Toomaji was the co-owner of Chaplin’s Restaurant and Bar, which is located only a block away, employees confirm.
The police say the crash happened at about 2:30 a.m. between P and O streets. Toomaji and another pedestrian were crossing 9th Street from the west sidewalk to the east when he was hit. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
While police have not released any more information on why or how the collision happened, the windshield of the red Mercedes Benz convertible involved was severely damaged by the impact.
The driver remained at the scene, the police say; the police haven’t announced yet whether any charges will be filed.
Traffic reopened in both directions on 9th Street by 7:45 a.m.
