WASHINGTON — The Metro worker who suffered a medical emergency while working underneath an escalator at the Foggy Bottom station has been hospitalized and is in stable condition, according to a D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman.
While working in the underground escalator pit at about 10 a.m. Thursday, the worker began experiencing some kind of medical distress, DC Fire spokesman Doug Buchanan told WTOP. The man remained conscious and breathing, officials said.
Getting access to the area posed a challenge, and it took DC Fire crews nearly an hour before they could hoist the worker out of the pit with a tripod. Crews piped fresh air during the rescue operation to ensure the man’s safety.
