WASHINGTON — D.C. police say two cars were street racing on northbound Interstate 295, before a crash that left one woman critically injured.
Metropolitan police spokesperson Aquita Brown says the preliminary investigation has determined that the cars were speeding northbound, at approximately 1:45 a.m.
One of the two racing vehicles attempted to make a right turn and lost control, striking a third vehicle containing the injured woman.
The other racing car’s whereabouts is unknown.
Police are asking to hear from anyone who knows anything about the racing or crash, which forced the overnight closure of I-95 between Pennsylvania Avenue and Benning Road. It reopened around 4:45 a.m.
