Arlington launches new, mobile-friendly tourism site

WASHINGTON — The Arlington County Convention and Visitors Service has rolled out its new stayArlington website, what it calls its next-generation foundation of the county’s digital marketing efforts.

Philadelphia-based digital agency Tempest — whose other clients have included big tourist destinations like Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Sedona, Arizona; and Long Beach, California — finished the six month project ahead of time and on budget, Arlington County’s tourism department said.

The new site leans heavily mobile and includes some fresh bells and whistles, such as incorporating Eventbrite, an event technology platform.

“We decided to integrate that into our new stayArlington site, which lets us review and then easily add a wide variety of events that might be of interest to our viewers. Things like smaller music events or stand-up comedy shows, and things our visitors might otherwise not know about, and we wanted to have as opportunities for them while they’re here,” Cara O’Donnell at the Arlington Convention and Visitors Service told WTOP.

O’Donnell says the new site is much more easily navigated than the old site, making it easy for visitors to find lodging, dining and things to do.

It also includes intuitive social medial integration and full-screen video.

The stayArlington site reboot comes six years after the last time it was updated.

Tourism spending in Arlington County reached a record $3.1 billion in 2016, and Arlington tourism generated $89.3 million in local tax receipts, up 3.9 percent from 2015.
