WASHINGTON — It evidently seemed like a good idea at the time, although even that is hard to believe.
The phrase “Band of Ballers” isn’t new. The fact that it plays off the “Band of Brothers” title Stephen Ambrose’s book and subsequent HBO miniseries about the heroic 101st Airborne hasn’t ruffled feathers before.
But Under Armour took a little farther by not only using the term, but incorporating the iconic image of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima.
It didn’t go well.

The fact that the Band of Brothers name and the Iwo Jima image come from different theaters of World War II probably didn’t help.
Other than that, though, it was a genius move.
