Canadian retailer Roots opening stores in Georgetown, Pentagon City

WASHINGTON — Toronto-based apparel and accessories retailer Roots will open two stores in the Washington area as part of its expansion into the U.S. market.

Roots will open a 3,500-square-foot store on M Street in Georgetown and a 3,200-square-foot store in Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. Both stores will open in August.

Roots has 116 retail stores in Canada and three currently in the U.S., as well as partner-operated stores in China and Taiwan.

“We believe the U.S. represents a minimum 100-store market opportunity for us, which is an important long-term growth driver,” said Roots CEO Jim Gabel.

“We are confident our inclusive lifestyle brand with its legendary feel will resonate with U.S. customers.”

Roots says its goal is to open 10 to 14 U.S. locations by the end of 2019.

The retailer sells apparel, leather goods, footwear and accessories for men, women and children.
