WASHINGTON — The nonprofit American Institutes for Research, one of the world’s largest behavioral and social science research organizations, will relocate some operations from the District to Arlington County.
AIR will invest $12.5 million on its move and bring 320 jobs to Crystal City, leasing space at 1400 Crystal Drive. It will occupy 90,000 square feet on three and a half floors.
AIR’s headquarters, and between 600 and 650 jobs, will remain in Georgetown, at 1000 Thomas Jefferson Street Northwest. The organization has a total of 1,800 employees spread across locations in the U.S. and internationally.
“Arlington is an ideal fit for AIR due to its proximity to our federal government clients as well as access, amenities and convenience it provides our staff,” said David Myers, AIR’s president and CEO.
The company will receive state incentives, including a $500,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund.
While the headquarters will remain in D.C., it is moving much of its infrastructure and corporate functions, such as human resources and technology, to Arlington, along with many of its professional services staff.
AIR, established in 1946, conducts behavioral and social science research and provides technical assistance both domestically and internationally in the areas of health, education and workforce productivity.
