DC’s getting its first Dick’s

WASHINGTON — Dick’s Sporting Goods will open its first store in the District this month.

The new store, at The Shops at Dakota Crossing in Northeast D.C.’s Fort Lincoln neighborhood, will open Sept. 18.

Washington Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and former Redskins running back Clinton Portis will make in-store appearances during the weekend grand opening.

Dick’s has four other stores in the D.C. suburbs, with locations in Virginia at Bailey’s Crossroads and Springfield Town Center and in Maryland in Wheaton Plaza and at the Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg.

The D.C. Dick’s store will include both Nike and Under Armour shops, and be one of the first to include a new and improved footwear section. It will offer more than 40 in-store services by the chain’s certified pros in sports and outdoor specialties. including biking, golfing and fishing.

Pittsburgh-based Dick’s Sporting Goods has been around since 1948. It has 645 stores nationwide.

The company also owns Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream, True Runner and Chelsea Collective stores.
