WASHINGTON — April 26 is National Pretzel Day, and there are places to get free pretzels around the Washington region.
Snyder’s of Hanover, the 100-year-old pretzel company in Hanover, Pennsylvania, is handing out free bags of pretzel pieces outside eight baseball stadiums Tuesday, including Nationals Park.
Auntie Anne’s is giving customers who download its mobile app a free plain or cinnamon pretzel from now through May 1. Auntie Anne’s has more than a dozen locations in malls around the Washington region.
Wetzel’s Pretzels is handing out a free pretzel with no purchase required. Wetzel’s has local locations at Annapolis Mall, Montgomery Mall, Tysons Corner and Arundel Mills.
April 26 was declared National Pretzel Day more than 30 years ago by Rep. Robert Walker, a Republican from Pennsylvania, and re-declared by Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell in 2003 to mark the importance of the pretzel to Pennsylvania’s history and economy.
