Meteorologist Jordan Evans comes to 7News On Your Side after two and a half years in the Southern Plains. His career began in Central Texas. After a year there, he moved to Tulsa, Okla. to join our sister station, the ABC affiliate.
The most extreme weather event he experienced was the 2021 deep freeze when temperatures across Texas plummeted to near-historic lows. He worked on the air for nearly two weeks straight keeping the community informed and safe. He has also experienced several severe weather events involving tornadoes and flash flooding while working in Oklahoma.
He grew up in Kansas City, where his passion for weather evolved. After graduating high school, he headed to the Valley of the Sun to attend Arizona State University. There, he received a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication. During his time as a Sun Devil, he received several collegiate awards for his on-air work, including an Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Rocky Mountain Chapter.
Jordan also holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society. This certification is granted to broadcast meteorologists who show effective communication skills and meet established criteria for scientific competence in their weather presentations.
Besides his experience in the Southern Plains, he interned for local news stations in Kansas City and Phoenix. Before his senior year, he interned for CNN at the world headquarters in Atlanta.
Jordan is excited to be on the air in the nation’s capital. As a Kansas City native, his standards for BBQ are high. Send him your favorite spots to check out.
